One Manchester team fields an amateur veterans squad with nine former top-flight players in their present lineup.

The team Veterans Over-35s are based in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire-based Veterans Division Premier Tier.

The lineup this season boasts nine ex- Premier League footballers, with a collective 1,801 elite matches.

"That's a little different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

"I think I was a little awestruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] got on and he's has 60-odd English appearances.

"We held our own for a good 20 minutes but then we had a player sent off and it was tough.

"We really have not stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mum and brother on the way home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the game - it was like facing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
